Remembering

My mind always goes back to the story, the true story of God and His promise to Noah:

"When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth." Genesis 9

As if God could forget anything. I think He's talking on my terms. Cause I forget most things...like where I put my keys. Like which day is library day. Like butter on my grocery list.

But I want to remember. And I want my children to remember. My husband had the boys memorize this verse: "Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don't wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well." Ecc. 12:6 Well, they memorized a different version, but you get the picture.

When I drop them off for school in the mornings, I will often say something like, "Remember God today." I know if they are anything like me, they will forget if they're not intentional.

How can I remember Him like He remembers me? Honestly, I can't. His hands are pierced for me, He absolutely never forgets. But I can take steps....a breath of prayer while I work, a whisper of thanks when I stop to tuck a babe in, a shout of joy to Him when the hummingbird stops by.

He puts the bow in the air for me to remember that He remembers.

I want to number my thanks, to remember His faithfulness to me and my family...

This reminds me (no pun intended) of Mrs. Schwab, who used to tell her children as they walked out the front door each day, "Remember who you are." I love the way you gently share this with your babes, too.
